The CRC Energy Efficiency Scheme is a mandatory emissions trading scheme for the UK that aims to reduce carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions through energy efficiency.
Organisations required to participate must monitor their energy use and purchase allowances, for each tonne of CO2 they emit that falls within the scheme. The more CO2 an organisation emits that fall within the scheme, the more allowances it must purchase. This provides an incentive for organisations to reduce their energy use.
More information on what charges are payable, how to pay and the legal charging scheme are explained in the charges scheme and guidance document. For more information on the CRC Energy Efficiency Scheme itself please see our CRC pages.
