Working in the Welsh language

Following the formation of Natural Resources Wales, we are now largely an England-only body. We are revising our Welsh Language Scheme to reflect this.

Given our previous responsibilities for the environment across England and Wales, we agreed a Welsh language Scheme (2007) which sets out how we provide our services equally in Welsh as well as English, as required under the Welsh Language Act (1993) .

However, further to the formation of Natural Resources Wales and demerger of EA Wales, the scope of work where the Environment Agency, as a largely England-only body, would translate under our 2007 scheme has significantly reduced. As a result we are currently reviewing our Welsh Language Scheme and will be submitting an amended version to the Welsh language Commissioner for approval.
